For anyone who leaves their home country to come to America, the experience has to be a bit traumatic. It is always helpful if there are certain factors in place to help the people make the adjustment easier. Two of the biggest barriers that may have to be overcome is the native language of America which is English and also how to find centers of their own culture thriving within the United States.
A universal language for all people is food and that food is as diverse as the many different cultures that populate the country. You can find a quick rundown here Being able to find familiar products to prepare native food such as Korean is a huge plus for Koreans arriving in the United States or having been here awhile without the supportive aid of familiarity. In researching this subject, it was found that there are countless stores, restaurants and a television cooking show that caters especially to Korean food and how to implement those recipes into the American kitchen. Having familiar food and access to prepare that food will help newly arrived Koreans to adjust to the difference between the United States and Korea. There are so many ways shown to combine the flair of Korean food into certain American dishes. This accomplishes a double fold objective by not only helping the Koreans feel more at home but also to acquaint their new American friends with their food while serving it in a dish such as a chicken sandwich made with a Korean sauce that helps the Americans improve their own cultural knowledge.
It is always helpful to relocating Korean nationals when they befriend local Korean Americans who know where to help them find resources for jobs, religious choices, schooling for their children and a strong Korean American community. It makes home seem not so far away.
